Pets at Spirit

When I first joined SL I had a cat attached to my leg for days so it followed me around. But it was just a plain prim cat and not very interesting. So I took a close look when Savannah of Spirit dropped a few of her Diva Dogs on me. The ones she gave me were Scotties. If I were to get a RL small dog I’d want a Scottie or a Yorkie. (The dog I really want is a Newfoundland which goes beyond being large to being a giant dog.)

Yes, I know these poses aren’t traditional ballet poses. I prefer to think these were caught during dress rehearsal in the wings. We used to start doing disco en pointe or something to distract whoever was on stage to try to get them to mess up steps.

Making a Custom AO using ZHAO or HUDDLES

One of the single items most fashionistas won’t do without is their Animation Override. I never really bought a premade AO because I didn’t find one in which I liked all the poses. One of the old posts that gets lots of hits is my “I finally figured out my AO” post. While it doesn’t clearly tell how to set up an AO it’s better than anything else I’ve found. So I’m expanding it here.

While ZHAO, HUDDLES or Wet Ikon don’t match my ideal AO (can I have more than 5 stands please?), but they are the ones I’ve figured out. I’m mainly going to talk about ZHAO, but I’ll point out differences here and there with the set up. I’m warning you now this will be a long post with lots of text. I’m going to show you how to set up a custom animation override. You can get either the ZHAO or the Wet Ikon at different places around the grid, but I put the ones I have in a box and placed it in my cottage.

1. Pick the poses & animations you like. I usually pick a Walk, 5 Stands and a Sit.
2. Open the included notecard (or start a new one) the blank one should look like this

3. Look at the names of the poses and inset it exactly like it is in the blank lines like so

   etc. Do the same for Walks and Sits.

4. Save the notecard and rename it to something you’ll remember. i.e., Tanya Book’s AO
5. Rez the object of the ZHAO, HUDDLES, or Wet Ikon on the ground. (Make sure it is ground where you can rez an object.)
6. Edit the object and under the contents tab drag the notecard and the chosen poses. For ZHAO and HUDDLES you can use multiple notecards in the same object. For the Wet Ikon style, you’ll only be able to put one notecard in each object.
7. Take the object back into inventory. When it’s in inventory, Wear it. If you are using Wet Ikon you can stop here. If using ZHAO keep going
8. Click the ‘Menu’ button to bring up the menu.
9. Click the ‘Load’ button. On the next dialog box, click the button with your notecard’s name on it. Wait for the script to load your notecard.
10. Click the ‘Walk’ button. On the next dialog box, click “1”. Repeat with the ‘Sit’ and ‘GroundSit’ buttons, clicking “1” for both.
11. Click the ‘AO On’ button to turn the ZHAO on.

Congratulations! You now have your AO that is yours.

Couple of Misc. Things

First, I’ve meant to point this out for several days, look at the attached ad. This may be the best one I’ve ever seen on SL. Certainly better than a lot I’ve seen in RL. It’s easy to tell you how important ads are but impossible to tell you how to do them well beyond showing you good ones. And this one’s really good.

Next, Bella Beleza is a fairly new animator with some interesting things. She does a lot of custom work which leads to things like sumo aos and waitress animations. Also, she has a sit and walk for tinies. Her stuff is $100L for regular versions, custom of full permissions also available.

House of London

Fenigan London dropped a review pack of glasses on me from House of London. Fenigan specializes in prim eyewear. My absolutely favorite is the magnificent Tac style of sunglasses. These are scripted so you can have different lenses and frames so it’s like having the fatpack without changing your glasses. The set attach point is your nose. If your prim lashes attach to your nose then you’ll have to attach it to a different point and adjust them, but they are copyable so just make a copy before you begin in case of mistakes.

Медсестра (Nurse)

This post started as inspiration from the Medical Field Service Belt Amelia found on SLB. I went a little Russian influenced with the Woman Tshirts from Veschi. Hence I used the Russian word for Nurse as the post title. I also didn’t have any combat boots (which I’ll probably get yelled at by Amelia over the Kool Kicks). 😀 This photo is an honor and a tribute to the nurses of the Armed Forces who serve. A few months ago, I watched CNN Presents: Wounded Warriors. One of the people who stuck in my mind was a nurses who was just on for a few seconds and I don’t think she even spoke. She was an ICU nurse in the Baghdad Combat Support Hospital. She was wearing a brown Tshirt and desert camo pants and some sort of webbed shoulder harness. Probably because I am an ICU nurse I felt an instant kinship and empathy. I’ve taken care of 18 year old head trauma patients before. And while I didn’t have the whole platoon to take care of emotionally, I did have both sets of grandparents, the parents and the fiance. I’ve spoken to Red Cross‘s Armed Forces Emergency Services several times trying to get guys back home for a sick parent/grandparent. So here’s to them. Miles away from friends and family, patching up our boys day in and day out. (BTW The Jewelry Expo‘s charity is the Red Cross. You’ll be able to support them via the auction & donation kiosks at the event.)

Makeover by Aitui

I saw the announcement for a new male AO on SLBoutique that was specifically advertised as “subtle and relaxed” and had dragged LJ there like a shot. Boxed Confidence by The Motion Merchant is exactly as advertised: a nice low-key masculine AO that doesn’t use exaggerated poses. The number and variety of men who streamed in while we were there is proof of how hard it is to find appropriate AOs for men (besides the high fashion ones). See the shots below for examples of the stands. It’s $750L for Mod/Trans. A women’s version is also available.

So after that, I decided he had to have a new skin and dragged him to Aitui. While we were there we also picked up a hair and some clothes. We couldn’t agree on a tattoo though. He was into all that gross stuff.

I finally got an animation override t…

I finally got an animation override to work nicely in a way I like. I’ve tried various types of AO’s but I’d either take it off when adding/changing prims or it would start annoying me and there was no way I could figure out how to add poses/animations to the AO. Well at Reel Movement I found the Zhao (short for Ziggy’s HUD Animation Overrider) for free (Or was it L$1? I honestly don’t remember). Then I loaded it with all my poses that I liked. Just by dragging the pose into the object when you’ve got the edit window open. Then you edit the note card. The note card took me a little while to understand. You have lines not to touch (those with something already there) and then you just type the exact name of the pose/animation you want played below the type it is. For example:

Another nice thing is the fact I can add different note cards and not have to change my AO. For example, I can have a note card “Fashionista” set up for when I’m formally dressed and a note card “PUNK” for when I’m goofing off around the grid. All I have to do is click the load button and it pops up with all the note cards I have in the HUD listed. I just click on the one I want and it loads. So go mix & match your own. And if you know of any good fly/landings let me know where to find them.

I may change the banner later to something related to SL. I like how the little thin photo borders get added on with this template.

Also Amelia has had a Notecard for Customizing Your Avatar for Newbies that she wrote some time ago. I just converted it to a Google Doc for the website. Please! Go read it.
